Digitizing Vehicle Wraps and Cutting Patterns with the CADPen

Use Case: Creating accurate templates for vehicle wraps, graphics, and protective films.
Workflow: DXF → CAD / Cutting Plotter.

To protect the paint surface, the standard steel tip of the CADPen is replaced with a plastic tip and guided along a pre-applied contour tape or masking film. The system can capture both 2D and 3D contours, allowing flatter body areas to be digitized directly on the vehicle.

For more strongly curved body parts, a robust workflow is recommended: First, a template film is applied to the vehicle and the contour is marked with a regular pen. Then, the film is removed, laid flat on a work surface, and traced with the CADPen on a single sketching layer. This creates a clean CAD curve of the film contour.

The resulting DXF geometry can be directly transferred to CAD software or a cutting plotter. This creates reusable templates for vehicle wraps, stickers, and fleet graphics. At the same time, it reduces direct cutting on the vehicle and avoids the risk of damaging the paint during template creation.
