Digitizing machine knives and die-cut tools with CADPen
Use case: Reverse engineering and redesign of existing knives and die-cut tools
Workflow: DXF → CAD → tooling design & manufacturing
For the design and planning of new die-cut tools and machine knives, existing components can be digitized directly with the CADPen as native CAD geometry. Instead of measuring and redrawing by hand, the CADPen captures contours as lines, arcs and splines directly on defined sketch planes.
The recorded geometry can be opened in your CAD system within seconds as DXF and immediately reused. Edges can be offset, adapted, combined or parametrically modified to develop new components based on proven shapes. The captured contours thus become a precise starting point for:
-
improved knife geometries
-
variant tools for new materials or formats
-
replacement parts that must match existing machines exactly.
